A WordPress child theme can be used to instantly make a new and unique child theme for your website. Many people do not realize it but they can actually have their child's name and even the entire website layout made out of WordPress. This is a great way to give a completely new look to an old site. Here are three easy steps that you will be able to follow to get started.

A WordPress child theme functions the same as an adult one on the outside. Once activated, it will function just like any other theme would. The only difference is, child themes already have a parent theme that they inherit most of their features from. This is what makes a child theme so much easier to use than an adult template.
The first thing you will want to do when setting up a new child theme is to register it with your domain name. WordPress will let you do this by clicking on "manage cPanel" next to "Activating New Plug-ins". Just click on "WordPress DNS" and you will be given a window to enter your information. All you need to do here is to fill out the necessary fields including your name, address, keywords, description, and so forth. Once you have done that, you will be ready to go!
The second step that you need to do in order to set up your new child theme is to download the WordPress 3.0 version and then unzip the files. You will find two files inside the folder; one will be the template and the other will be the parent theme. Inside the template folder you will see some text that will tell you how to customize the new theme. Inside the parent theme folder you will see all the files needed for the installation of the new child theme.
The third step that you need to do is to upload the images that are in the WP image repository. Inside the main "posts" directory there should be an "alt" link that says "responsive", this is used to display a featured image in your posts. Using the search engine that is usually built into WordPress, you should be able to find the image that you want to use. You will want to paste that image into the URL that is found in the resource box in the lower right corner of your screen after you have saved the image.
Installing any child theme can be quite simple if you follow the steps outlined above. If you need more help you can always visit the WordPress help center. You can also find answers to most common questions there. In most cases, all that you need to do is change the default theme that comes with your website to create a new and unique kids' themed design.
